The Cuzzani’s Engagement Session in Canmore

A Balmy Spring Creek Session

Miranda and Tom’s Story

Ten years ago, at a university party, Miranda met Tom. At the time, she was already in a relationship, so they went their separate ways. They were both getting their business degrees and graduated together. After graduation, and now single, Miranda reconnected with Tom through LinkedIn. He invited her for coffee to Higher Ground in Kensington, and she happily agreed. It wasn’t long after that the two began dating. Now, after two and a half years together, they are getting married!

The Proposal Along the California Coast

Tom’s father lives down in San Francisco with his wife, Tom thought it would be nice to surprise Miranda with a trip. Unfortunately, he used her West Jet points, and she noticed that he’d booked a holiday to San Francisco! He had to hide any inkling of what he was planning, so he told her he would take care of everything.

They began the trip at his dad’s place, and then they headed to Carmel-By-The-Sea along the coast. He took along the 17-Mile Drive, a scenic road that hugs the coast and passes through Pebble Beach. At the end of the drive, lies the Pebble Beach Golf Course and the Lone Cypress, a famous gnarled tree that overlooks the pacific.

In a dress, Miranda was getting a little chilly at the lookout points, and the cold was making her frustrated. Tom stopped at all the lookouts, which was only exacerbating the cold! Tom, meanwhile, was getting increasingly nervous as they neared the famed cypress tree.

Finally, as they were looking over the wide expanse of the Pacific, Tom got down on one knee and surprised her. She was floored. He had hidden it well!

After the excitement, they headed over to the restaurant at Pebble Beach Golf Course. Tom had coordinated with the restaurant to create custom menus that read: Congratulations Miranda and Tom! When they arrived, his contact at the restaurant was so excited to finally meet them, and to offer her congratulations!

Their Engagement Session along Canmore’s Spring Creek

The day of Tom and Miranda’s engagement session began with hair and makeup by the talented artist Michelle Walsh. Michelle sang high praise for the couple, and couldn’t have had nicer things to say.

They were also feeling a little shy about the session, but right away they warmed up to being in front of the camera. Once they came to understand how easy it all was, they became much more comfortable.

We drove out to Canmore under bright blue skies, winding up in the Spring Creek neighbourhood. The area is an exciting new development in the town and is home to a vibrant sanctuary of shops and condos.

We started off the visit by heading to one of the complexes that are currently under development. The ground floor is made up of beautiful wood and stone storefronts. We started in front of the log cabin visitor’s centre, and then moved on to the shops and apartments. It was a great place to play around with different backdrops, all the while the ever-present mountains towering behind.

Back in the car, Tom switched into a sport jacket and a button up shirt, and Miranda changed into a beautiful black dress. The weather was amazing at a balmy 1 degree Celsius, which made the formal wear a little less chilly.

We found a passageway that tunnels through the apartment complex. Inside, we set up backlighting and flash. The bouncing light created a unique space for Tom and Miranda to stand in. We found a wooden gazebo with a beautiful inset stone BBQ for a few shots. Then we followed a stairwell down to the creek bed, where Miranda donned a fluffy white jacket. We shot them with the whole complex in the background. Along the creek, we came across the beautiful snow covered pines. Miranda and Tom moved out into the trees for some gorgeous nature shots. We finished up the shoot photographing Miranda’s beautiful engagement ring in the snow and upon the shiny granite BBQ countertop.

Wrapping up, Miranda and Tom were kind enough to share their experience on video. It was a fun day out in Canmore. We headed home, and Miranda and Tom ended their day with a lovely dinner in town.
