A Rainy Day made a Charming Celebration

The day started with absolutely gorgeous weather. The sun was shining and bright, but on our way to Olds we noticed big angry storm clouds spanning the horizon. We kept our hopes up that the monstrous storm would skirt us. But it wasn’t meant to be. The bride, Roseline, called us once the giant lightning strikes started! We changed the plan for the formals before getting to town.

The Creative Formals at the Olds Gazebo

The original plan was to shoot at Martinsen and Harder Law Office in Olds, which has a beautiful old building with trees, and train tracks running behind it. Instead, the rain dictated our day. Our alternate plan was to head to the gazebo in downtown Olds, located in the park at 50th Ave and 54 St, next to the old Agricultural Society.

Even though we had gloomy weather, we didn’t let the rain dampen our spirits. As we pulled up to the gazebo, the rain mercifully let up a bit, and allowed us to get under the shelter. Once we set up under the roof, the sky absolutely poured. Thankfully we had more than enough shelter under the gazebo! The rain made for some beautifully moody shots of Roseline and Aaron. The first wave of rain let up a bit, allowing us time to take a few shots of the couple in front of the gazebo, under the open sky.

When we got into the car to head to the reception, the sky opened again and poured once more.

The Eslinger Reception at the Olds and District Evergreen Centre

The reception was held at Olds and District Evergreen Centre, located at 5237 52 St in Olds. We arrived in a torrential downpour, so we helped the bride and groom into the hall.

Rocky Mountain BBQ catered dinner, and they provided an absolutely delicious meal. They served a pulled pork sandwich with tasty Caesar salad, and Creole chicken, rice, and beans to celebrate Roseline’s Haitian heritage. The open bar featured dark and light beer, both made locally by the Olds College.

For dessert, Roseline created a beautiful candy bar. It featured every type of candy you could imagine, from sour watermelons to Skittles and Starburst. The incredibly unique cake they cut after dinner was even made of Rice Krispies!

Aaron and Roseline’s reception was actually a celebration of their wedding that they held last year. This party was for the guests that couldn’t attend last year’s wedding.

As it turned out, they hadn’t been able to do their first dance at the first reception. So at this reception, they did. They also got the opportunity to do a father-daughter dance, and a mother-son dance.

Once the dances finished, both Aaron and Roseline had something special planned. Aaron got up, and being an incredible singer, sang a Paul Brandt love song to Roseline. Next, Roseline and her girlfriends did a traditional Haitian dance, wearing their Haitian head wraps. As soon as they were done, DJ Josh with Sounds Unlimited got the party started, and kept it going into the night.
