A Beautiful Evening Session After the Rain

The weather on the day of Kevin and Jessica’s engagement shoot was quite adverse, and we were a little concerned about the heavy clouds. We called the couple up to see if they wanted to reschedule, but they were beyond excited for the chance to shoot in the storm! So, we hopped in the car and headed out to meet them.

When we arrived, Michelle Walsh with Michelle Suffolk-Walsh Hair and Makeup was doing Jessica’s hair and makeup. We started the shoot with pictures of the engagement ring. We shot the beautiful solitary diamond ring against their cool vacuum tube audio system and some of their clay pillars.

Jessica’s Engagement Ring

Kevin gave this ring to Jessica on April 2nd, after two years of dating. The couple met through an alumni event in Calgary for their joint alma mater, Queens University. At the event, Jessica headed over to the two guys that looked easiest to talk to: Kevin and his friend. She found Kevin so easy to talk to that they continued their friendship, which eventually blossomed into something more. On April Fool’s Day, Kevin asked Jessica’s mother for permission to propose. She thought he was teasing her, but it was all in earnest.

On April 2nd he took Jessica on a 37km bike ride, and by the end she was just ready to go home! To ease the pain he got down on one knee and proposed with the solitaire diamond ring that he had chosen himself. Needless to say, she was surprised!

The Outdoor Engagement Session at North Glenmore Park

Before we headed outside, it began to rain… hard. Jessica and Kevin were excited for photos in the rain, so we got all set up for it. Jessica even put on a cute pair of rubber boots! But, once we were ready to head out, the rain stopped. A steady stream had formed in the back alley, so we hopped out into that for some whimsical shots of the couple standing in the water. While in the area, we hopped across the street to the neighbour’s yard, where they have several beautiful large trees.

Then, we went out to North Glenmore Park next to the Calgary Canoe club, and got some photos on the ridge overlooking the Glenmore reservoir. We had Jessica and Kevin sit upon a bench overlooking the water, and shot them from the trees.

Further down the path we found a beautiful spot where the golden setting sun cast beautiful light over the reservoir. We shot some sunset photos of the couple, while the sun disappeared over the Weaselhead Natural Area grasslands.

One of the fields in the park was flooded, so we used the standing water to our advantage, and took some gorgeous reflection shots of Jessica and Kevin. At this point the light was fading, and the beautiful hues of blue and orange in the sky reflected off the water like a mirror.
