A Crisp Autumn Engagement Session

Carlyn and Sean’s Story

We started off the session at Sean and Carlyn’s place, where Carlyn was having makeup and hair done. Christina Kemp with Modern Makeovers delivered fantastic results, as usual! Carlyn and Sean have a six-month-old son, Brody, and we incorporated him into the session for some family style shots. A friend of theirs tagged along with us to the shoot to take care of the little guy while we spent time with the couple.

Carlyn and Sean got together four years ago after meeting through social media. They set up a date, and hit it off! This past January Sean proposed, after mulling over how to do it. He began planning a romantic proposal, but Carlyn doesn’t like to be the center of attention. She was also six months pregnant, so he made the decision to just ask her. He picked the stunning ring out himself, and she was really happy with the ring he chose! Needless to say, she accepted and three months later they welcomed their beautiful baby boy into the world.

Their Engagement Session at North Glenmore Park

To start the shoot we headed up to North Glenmore Park by the Calgary Canoe Club. North Glenmore Park is a beautiful natural area surrounding the Glenmore reservoir. We found a great field with some long grass to shoot the family in. Brody was excited by the outdoor stimuli, and was extremely interested in the long grass. Because there was a little chill in the air, Brody was bundled into an adorable snuggly hoodie. The benefit of the chill was the beautiful fall colors around the park.

We followed the path north of the parking area. It is lined with benches and rocks that made a great place for their friend to chill with the baby while we took photos of Carlyn and Sean.
As we walked along the path we found a nice bed of moss where we set her beautiful engagement ring. It is a unique ring; the beautiful diamond sits right on top of an inset jewel. We used some acorns and a rock to set the ring upon.

Moving along we came across another patch of long grass, this one with beautiful yellows and oranges in it. Sean was feeling mischievous, and pulled out a long piece of grass and began teasing Carlyn with it. She grabbed a piece herself, and they had a little faux duel, which made for some really fun pictures. We moved into a beautiful tree ringed space and shot the couple through the green boughs of the spruce trees. Brody was getting a little cold, so he was taken back to the car while we finished up.

To wrap up the shoot we headed over to the rocky pond and took a bunch of reflection shots in the water. The still water made the reflections sharp and clear. We had a blast with Sean and Carlyn, and are looking forward to seeing them next October!
