The Silbernagel’s Wedding Photos in Crossfields Alberta

A Sunny Wedding at the Family Ranch

The Bride and Groom Getting Ready

We started the day of Tye and Sara’s wedding at their home in northeast Calgary, where the bride and her party were getting ready. As the primary planner, Sara wanted to head out to the ceremony early to make sure everything was ready to go. So, we began the session as the women were wrapping up hair and makeup. We photographed the bridesmaids in the custom robes Sara gifted them, all excited for the day ahead.

Sara and Tye opted not to read their personal vows in front of their guests at the ceremony and instead would read privately the morning their wedding day. It was a beautiful and unique touch to the day, so we wanted to capture a little bit of the moment. Sara sat down, and we staged a few shots of her reading the personal vows she had already read. Sara then got into her dress, and we photographed the intricate details.

The men, meanwhile, were at groomsman Colin and bridesmaid Amie’s house, relaxing in front of the soccer match with snacks and drinks. Everyone got into their suits, and we photographed the details with the groom as he tied his tie and laced his shoes. As he went to pull on his jacket, there was a flurry of motion. It seemed like the jacket was attacking him! This jacket attack became a running joke throughout the night, even referenced during the speeches. We got a few shots of the group watching the game, cheering at every exceptional goal. Then, to echo the images we had of Sara, we sat Tye down to read his personal vows too.

We wrapped up with the groom outside in a nearby field, where we created a nice edgy shot with vivid lighting.

Their Ceremony at the Silbernagel Family Farm

Then it was on to the Silbernagel family farm for the ceremony. This is where Tye grew up, so it was a special location. We met up with the whole wedding party and proceeded to photograph the beautiful décor and set-up. The backyard housed a beautiful arbour they had built, with chairs lined up precisely and soft light filtering through the trees. The guests mingled and made their way to their seats, and the ceremony began.

Officiant Marjory Silbernagle led a lovely ceremony. It began with the devotional, followed by traditional vows, the ring exchange, and a kiss. The couple moved over to sign their papers, which were weighed down by a paperweight to keep them from blowing away in the breeze. The breeze, however, was great; it tempered the heat of the sun and made the bright summer day much more pleasant.

The family photos followed the ceremony. Everyone was so organized that we finished ahead of schedule, so we moved into the reception tent from Great Events Rentals, and photographed the rich details of the venue. While we wandered through the tent, the newlyweds had a chance to mingle with their guests, who were having a snack of popcorn and candy from the bar inside. Lawn games were set up, and everyone enjoyed some good competition and conversation.

The Creative Formals at Soderglen Ranch

After chatting with their guests, we loaded the wedding party and the bride and groom into the shuttle and drove down to the Soderglen Ranch, a nearby property that boasts gorgeous locations. They have a beautiful dock that stretches into a large pond, which was a perfect place to stage the couples photos, however we first photographed some quirky and fun group shots at the entrance. Sara brought along parasols for the women, not only to keep them out of the sun but to serve as great props for the session!

After group photos, we separated with the newlyweds and wandered into the backyard at the ranch, where a lush garden veranda served as our backdrop. We walked up a cobblestone road and found a beautiful overgrown path that led back to the dock. There was such diversity in the locations throughout the ranch, it was easy to find unique spaces to shoot in.

The Silbernagel Reception in Crossfields

Back in the shuttle, we headed back to the Silbernagel family farm for the reception. The couple entered in, announced by their two emcees. Tye’s twin brother Brett and their lifelong friend, who they met in elementary school and has been a fixture in their lives ever since, served as joint emcees.

To kick off dinner, all the couples who had been married for thirty to fifty years got up to eat. The rest of the dinner followed suit, until everyone had a plate. Tane’s Catering took care of the food and provided a fantastic meal for the reception.

Speeches followed dinner, some more roast-like than others, though all were punctuated with heartfelt moments. The groom’s parents speech was beautiful, with his dad delivering a fantastic ode to his son. Sara’s sisters spoke, and then her parents got up to welcome Tye into the family. Brett and their older brother Kyle followed, with a few hilarious and factually questionable tales of their brother.

When the newlyweds stood to deliver their speech, Sara warned the group that Tye was going to share his stories. The Silbernagel boys love their stories. He joked that his stories are very much like his golf game; it may not be all that good, but there’s nothing you can do to stop him.

The party moved into cake cutting, and the catering team brought out an array of delicious desserts. We followed the dessert with slideshows, first, a personal one of the newlyweds growing up, and then our same day slideshow of their creative photos.

After the slideshows, Tye and Sara shared their first dance as a married couple. Then they each danced with their parents, to a version of ‘True Colours’ by Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake. Their friend Jeremy was in charge of the music, playing through a set of playlists curated by the happy couple. He did a great job, helping the party carry well into the night.

We had a lovely day with Sara and Tye, and hope they love their images as much as we loved capturing them!
