The Steel’s Engagement Session in the Heart of Johnston’s Canyon
Johnston Canyon’s Wintery Mountain Trails
When Kelly-Anne Met Cody
As of March 4th, Kelly-Anne and Cody have been together for ten years! They first met through a mutual friend and began their relationship as friends. They bonded upon discovering that they share the same birthday, August 16th, and began to spend more and more time together. They also both loved the television series The OC and spent their Thursday nights together watching new episodes. It was evident to both of them that they wanted to be more than just friends. On New Year’s Eve, Cody confessed his feelings to Kelly-Anne, but she already knew how he felt. On the next Valentine’s Day, they had their first official date at the Green Olive, and the rest is history!
The Christmas Proposal
So, about nine years into the relationship, Cody decided it was time to propose. Upon reflection, Kelly-Anne had no idea it was coming. Marriage was something they had discussed, but it was one of those far off ideas that seemed distant. Needless to say, his proposal surprised her. On Christmas, at dinner with the entire family, he stood up at the end of grace with something to say. Everyone apart from Kelly-Anne knew what was happening. They all had their phones on under the table, ready to record the moment. He came around to stand beside her, and his well-rehearsed speech flew out the window. As soon as he dropped to one knee, he barely had time to get the words out before Kelly-Anne answered, “Yes!”
He picked out the ring on his own, knowing that she likes rose gold. But, Kelly-Anne admitted that she couldn’t have done better if she picked it out herself! He clearly knows his wife-to-be.
Their Engagement Session at Johnson Canyon
Kelly-Anne and Cody are getting married in the autumn, so they wanted to change it up with a winter engagement shoot. Both are fond of the mountains and consider them a big part of their lives. They spend the majority of their off time at their cabin in Fairmont, BC, which is also where they will be getting married! For the shoot, the picturesque Johnson Canyon felt like the perfect location. It’s in the mountains, and also offers unmatched backdrops of evergreens, rocky walls, and waterfalls. In the winter, the canyon was serene. We began the hike along the Canyon to the Lower Falls. Along the way, we stopped for photos amid the towering trees and rocky outcroppings. About half a kilometer from the Upper Falls, Kelly-Anne admitted she was feeling under the weather. Instead of pushing on we decided to descend back to the Lower Falls. On the way back down, the couple climbed into a fresh pile of snow, surrounded by evergreens. The light among the trees was soft and pleasant, and it gave us beautiful shots. After the foray into the trees, Kelly-Anne and Cody tread out onto the frozen river. We then returned to the falls for an unmatched backdrop. In the deep of winter, the waterfall froze over, and it now stands as an ethereal, cascading blue wall of ice. We closed the session amongst the snow-capped rocks along Johnson Canyon.
We had a lovely day with Kelly-Anne and Cody, and look forward to their beautiful wedding!
