The Silbernagel’s Engagement Session at Calgary’s Edworthy Park
A Sunset Engagement Session at Edworthy Park
Sara and Tye met back in 2015, during an accidental encounter. Sara had just come out of a serious relationship and wasn’t looking to jump into anything new, but Tye persuaded her to let him take her out. She gave it one month, just to see where it would go.
On their first date, he brought along two photos: one of himself, and one of his twin brother. He challenged her to choose which photograph was of him, the reward being ice cream at Dairy Queen. She got it right and won the challenge.
Mini Golf, Italian Dinners, and Crescent Heights
Over two years later, in May of 2017, he was ready to propose. He had some inkling of what she wanted, but for the most part, he put the ring and the proposal together on his own, in secrecy.
Back in 2015, Tye had planned one of their first dates, and took Sara out for a game of mini-golf, a dinner at an Italian restaurant, and a walk along Crescent Heights, a ridge that overlooks downtown Calgary. For the proposal, he recreated the romantic evening. But, to throw her off the trail, they visited an entirely different mini-golf course, and an altogether different Italian restaurant! Then, they returned to Crescent Heights for an evening stroll.
Down the trail, his twin brother and Sara’s sisters were busy setting the scene. A sign along the path, surrounded by three dozen roses, asked, “What’s your dream?” His brother waited with the camera to snap the perfect shot of the engagement.
As Tye and Sara were walking up to the sign, a group of people took an interest in it and were hanging around trying to discern the meaning. Sara wanted to avoid the activity, but Tye pulled her back to it. When they were alone, he started his speech the way he’d practiced and got down on one knee.
Later, in the car, Sara needed him to recount the entire thing: shock had caused her to barely remember the proposal!
The Engagement Session at Edworthy Park
We had a nice and quick engagement session at Edworthy Park with Tye and Sara. The park, originally intended to be temporary, was saved by public opposition to its removal. It is home to many varieties of plant-life, including a population of 400-year-old Douglas Fir trees.
We began the session just across the bridge, in front of Angel’s Ice Cream, a well-loved hidden gem with spectacular views of the Bow River. After walking into the park, we headed down to the rocks on the shoreline where the bridge provided a beautiful backdrop.
Just off the river, we wandered into a grove of trees and backlit the couple in the forest. Back up on the bridge, the sky was on fire, and we were treated to a perfectly picturesque sunset to wrap up the shoot.
