A Serene Ceremony and a Sunset Session
How Carmen and Steven Met
Seven years ago, Carmen and Steven met at the club, in what they describe as ‘not the most romantic of places.’ They also say it wasn’t love at first sight, but the two hit it off. Eventually, Carmen’s friend convinced her to go out with Steven.
By the time they went on their very first date, it was evident that the two had a connection. Not long after, the couple moved in together. As of now, they have been living together for seven years.
The Sunset Proposal
In their relationship, Carmen is known to be more of the leader. So, in Playa del Carmen, when Steven repeatedly insisted on watching the sunset on the beach, she became suspicious. About an hour before it all went down, she caught on. On the way to the beach, she gave him a bit of a hard time, but eventually, he got her there and dropped to one knee as the sun disappeared beneath the horizon.
Their Ceremony at Fish Creek Park
Marriage after living together this long felt like more of a formality to them since they have been living as common law for years. They didn’t want a big production; they just wanted an intimate ceremony where friends and family could gather and celebrate.
A week before the wedding day, they found a beautiful spot out next the Bow River for the ceremony. The place was perfect, and on the day, with the sun shining and the river trickling by, their celebration was serene and intimate – precisely what they wanted.
The Creative Formals at Fish Creek Park and the Bow Valley Ranche
For the creative formals after the ceremony, we began down by the water. Carmen had a few images from Pinterest for inspiration, which we incorporated into the session. We found a beautiful grove of trees with the warm afternoon sun lighting up the leaves and grasses. Nearby, a still pond was the perfect place for reflection shots.
Our next location was the big red barn at the Bow Valley Ranche. Steven comes from a family of farmers, and he wanted to include an homage to that part of his life. We took a few individual shots against the bright red panels, where Carmen’s red lipstick popped! After the pictures at the barn, we photographed Carmen and Steven as they danced in the soft romantic sunlight. We rounded out the session with close-ups of the rings, using several natural elements as backdrops and props.
By that point in the evening, the temperature was beginning to cool down, so we wrapped up for the night. After the session, the bride, groom, and wedding guests were all going out to celebrate with cocktails and dinner.
We had a wonderful time with Carmen and Steven, and are so pleased with the weather we had on their wedding day. We hope the newlyweds love their images as much as we do!
We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to share this special day with them and all their family and friends. We wish them many years of happiness together.
