The Berman’s Wedding at Calgary’s River Cafe
A Sunny Day at the River Café
We started the day at the River Café in the heart of Prince’s Island Park. The restaurant is an amazing, fishing lodge inspired building, with beautiful views of the park and the city skyline.
The elegant, yet rustic venue was an incredible place to photograph and created a gorgeous backdrop for Jarvey and Marc’s wedding.
The first order of business was the family photos. The bride had lived in Calgary for a time but now lives in Florida with Marc and their boys, Lucas and Nate. Family members came up from all over the world, so it was the perfect opportunity to take some group photos. We set up on the back patio of the River Café, with a lovely backdrop of the greenery in Prince’s Island Park.
Their Ceremony at the River Café in Prince’s Island Park
Before the ceremony, we photographed a few of the details. In the beautiful summer light, we got some great shots of the dusty rose bouquet by Blue Hydrangea Floral Boutique, Jarvey’s gorgeous Anthropology dress, and her accent jewelry.
Then, it was time for the ceremony! Officiant Tamara Jones put on a beautiful service for Marc and Jarvey. In the distance, we were all serenaded by a drum solo, floating over the river from the Eau Claire Market.
Marc read his vows, written on paper, and Jarvey read hers, written on her phone. It was a beautiful and personal moment for the couple as they talked about their future together.
Once the ceremony was finished, there was a champagne toast, served by the excellent staff at the River Café. Everyone congratulated the newlyweds in a smile-filled receiving line.
The Creative Formals in Prince’s Island Park
We started the formals off with a few family shots of Jarvey, Marc, their two boys, and the two adorable flower girls. Then, the wedding party joined us for a quick session along the pathways in the park. We headed down to the edge of the Bow River, where we photographed the wedding party with the iconic Peace Bridge in the background.
We separated from the group and took Marc and Jarvey into a beautiful tree lined pathway. The light was incredible, streaming through the bright green trees. Back on the lawn around the River Café, the lighting was equally perfect, with little fluorescent patches of sunlight dotting the grass.
The Berman Reception at the River Café in Prince’s Island Park
Before the reception began, we spent some time photographing the meticulous details of the venue. Menus for the evening were at every table, and the beautiful floral centerpieces were an elegant juxtaposition to the rustic chairs. It was a nice setup.
Jarvey and Marc entered, and the dinner began. The incredible staff delivered dinner in unison to the guests, displaying their high level of organization. The immaculate food was delicious, and it was a pleasure to be able to sneak a peek at the chef in the open concept kitchen. The culinary team at the River Café also created the beautiful cake with ruffled white buttercream and floral accents.
Once dinner wrapped up, the speeches began. First, Jarvey’s best friend of 17 years spoke about their friendship, their lives as teenagers, and the way in which Marc has been a positive influence in Jarvey’s life. All the speeches had wonderful things to say about the couple, and how they complement and complete each other.
One of Jarvey’s bridesmaids sang a beautiful song for them. And even though she said she gets stage fright, she sounded incredible.
The newlyweds got up for their speech. They talked a bit about their kids, before thanking everyone for attending.
The cake cutting followed the speeches, and then the dances began. Jarvey and Marc had their first dance as a married couple, and then the wedding party dance took place. In a traditional dance, everyone got up to tape money to the bride and groom as they spun around the room.
DJ Chelsie with Hype Entertainment began her set, laying down some great tracks that got everyone up and moving. A photo booth opened at the back, which was a hit with everyone!
We had a great time at Jarvey and Marc’s wedding, and we wish them the best in their future together!
