The Martin’s Wedding at Edmonton’s Hotel Macdonald

On the day of their wedding, we met Kevin and Jenna, in downtown Edmonton at the fabulous Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. When we arrived, the whole family was waiting in the lobby for us, including their sons Mateo and Julian, who were also serving as Kevin’s groomsmen. We stepped out onto the back patio of the Hotel Macdonald, which offers stunning views of the river valley. Using the golden foliage and valley as backdrops, we began with family photos. It was a gorgeous day, not a cloud in the sky, but Edmonton in October is still a little chilly! Everyone was great about the chill, so we continued outside with the bride and groom and their wedding party on the beautiful green lawn.

The Creative Formals at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald

Once we wrapped up with the wedding party, we moved on to creative formals with Jenna and Kevin and utilized the gorgeous architecture of the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald itself. The elegant building overlooks the North Saskatchewan River and has been a part of the Edmonton city skyline since 1915. We used the grand entranceway to frame Jenna and Kevin and then took them out onto the back terrace for breathtaking views of the river valley below. The Hotel Macdonald is a phenomenal place to shoot, with classic elegance and incredible views, and everywhere we turned we found a beautiful backdrop. We wrapped up the creative formals in front of the hotel, under the glowing lights of the entrance.

Their Ceremony in the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald

We followed Kevin and Jenna inside for their ceremony. Mary Zakordonski of ‘Marry Us, Mary’, officiated the ceremony. She stressed the importance of their family unit, and the important role parents play in their lives. Julian and Mateo’s father was in attendance, and it was refreshing to see a blended family coming together so well. Mary noted that the family places high importance on mentoring the children and raising them together. It was a touching service, and she kept it short and sweet. Under a gorgeous chandelier, Kevin and Jenna said their “I do’s,” and they were pronounced husband and wife!

The Luncheon in the Wedgewood Room

In the signature Wedgewood Room, a buffet lunch was set up for the guests. The room itself is marked by a framed picture of the building plans, noting that the city approved permits for the place in 1913. Our bride Jenna designed the beautiful décor for the wedding, and she has a knack for it. Gorgeous wooden centrepieces from the farmers’ market sat on the tables, and wicker hearts and pine cones dotted the room. She captured the rustic elegance she wanted. The cake from The Art of Cake was a triple layer, with naked icing and chocolate drizzle. Topped with strawberries, icing sugar, and an elegant Mr. & Mrs. sign, it fit right into the theme.

The fabulous head table was set up, and the chandelier sparkled with the light coming through the tall windows. The room was sensational. The fantastic team at the Hotel Macdonald served their Sunday Brunch, which was an unending array of tasty morsels. A crepe station was set up, and the decadent brown sugar and fruit-filled creations were a favourite item. Julie, the events manager, and her team were terrific, orchestrating the entire luncheon with precision. They did an incredible job putting everything together for the newlyweds, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

The Martin wedding at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in downtown Edmonton was exquisite. From tiny details to grand sweeping views, the affair was a dream of rustic elegance. We had a fantastic time with Jenna and Kevin, and we hope they love their images as much as we enjoyed taking them!
