A Fun Trash the Dress Session at North Glenmore Park

Our Spectacular Location at the Mouth of the Elbow River

We shot this Trash the Dress session with Carmen and Grant at North Glenmore Park. The park spans 84 hectares and borders the northern side of the Elbow River that fed’s into the Glenmore reservoir in Calgary. For the shoot we stuck to the south-facing ridge of the park, which over looks the reservoir.

Carmen’s Trash the Dress Session

A trash the dress session is always fun, because allows us to do things we don’t normally do on a wedding day. With Carmen we had a great time, and she was game for lying on rocks and even taking a dip in the water. It’s just a fun way to contrast your elegant clothing against an untraditional backdrop.

The Sunset Shoot Over Looking the Reservoir

We began the shoot on a cliff overlooking the entire reservoir. Carmen stood above the water in her flowing white dress that perfectly matched the fluffy white clouds. We did a bunch of shots at the cliff, and they really turned out well.

We found some nice green long grass nearby, and Carmen sat among it with the sun casting down a warm glow on her. After we headed down a pathway to the foot of the reservoir, where the rocky beach seemed like the perfect place to stop for more pictures. The sun was beginning to set, and bounced off of the water in a warm glow while Carmen stood on the rocky shore. She lay down on the water’s edge, and we got several cool photos of her lounging on the shore in the sun. The lighting and the weather were absolutely perfect, and the sun hit all the right spots.

Carmen brought along some accessories to the shoot: a denim jacket and a pair of purple rubber boots, which happened to be her wedding colours. Then, she took the boots off and decided to get into the reservoir itself! She waded in a little timidly at first, and held her dress up out of the water. Eventually she let it drop, and even sat down right in the reservoir.

We got some amazing shots of Carmen in the water, and the surface reflections were absolutely beautiful. The water was very still because the boats were all off for the day, and the glassy surface was a perfect canvas. The sky was incredibly blue, punctuated with puffy white clouds, and this truly made the perfect backdrop. As the shoot wore on, Carmen was even brave enough to lie down in the water!

Her husband Grant then joined her for a few pictures, but he was careful to stay dry! When we eventually decided to get Carmen out of the water her dress was soaking wet, making it super heavy, so she needed some help getting back to dry land! Trash the dress sessions are always a lot of fun, and this was no exception!
