The Comty’s Wedding at Calgary’s Rotary House

A Day of Stunning Snow and Sunshine

We started the day at Kelsea’s house in the early afternoon, where the women were already getting ready. Kelsea wanted snow for her wedding, and boy did she get her wish. Over a foot of snow blanketed the ground. It was perfect.

The house was full of family, all there to wish Kelsea well. We moved upstairs and photographed her gorgeous, Stella York ‘Essence of Australia’ dress. Already adorned in her jewelry, Kelsea got into her dress with the help of her maid of honour Stacy and bridesmaid Dominika.

We brought her down the beautiful winding staircase in her home, and when her dad saw her for the first time, his eyes lit up. It was plain to see how much he adores his daughter.

The Ceremony at Rotary House

The party got into the limo and drove over Rotary House on the Stampede grounds for the ceremony. The Rotary House has a stunning stone fireplace, set into a gorgeous log cabin that was built in 1979. It’s an incredible venue space, rustic and intimate, with an element of ethereality. Twinkling lights and flowers decorated the space, and the beautiful vaulted cabin ceiling created the rest of the ambiance.

Once everyone was seated, Garett entered with his parents. The bridesmaids and groomsmen followed, and finally, the three adorable flower girls led the way for Kelsea. Because of the location of the entrance, Garett turned his gaze away from the main door. Kelsea walked in, made her way around the seated guests, and up the aisle into Garett’s line of vision. When he saw her for the first time, his eyes lit up, on the verge of tears.

The ceremony, conducted by officiant Abby Caharchun, was sweet and straightforward, with vows, the exchange of rings, signing of the documents, hearty congratulations from their guests, and family photos in front of the showpiece fireplace.

The Creative Formals at Rotary House and Stampede Park

It was Kelsea’s dream; the weather was gorgeous and white fluffy snow lay a foot deep across the lawn and in the trees. So, we took the party outside. The creative formal photographs were a breeze in the beautiful location. We started at the fireplace and made our way outside to Stampede Park and the Rotary Club exterior. Most of the building is rustic wood, fitting their theme of ‘winter rustic’ to a tee. We rotated through several backdrops, finding a new gorgeous spot everywhere we looked.

With Garett and Kelsea, we moved into a wooded area that gave us the perfect backdrop for a few more intimate shots of the newlyweds. We finished with a signature shot, the rustic Rotary Club in front, towering modern skyscrapers glinting in the background.

The Comty Reception at Rotary House

The reception kicked off with a beautiful dinner catered by the Rotary House. From couscous salad, pasta, chicken, potatoes, prime rib, and scalloped potatoes, everyone was well-fed with an impressive array of delicious food. Speeches followed dinner, marvellously introduced by Kelsea’s brother serving as emcee.

After the speeches, while the guests were waiting to see the slideshow, a game of ‘Last Couple Standing’ started up. The DJ from Revolution DJs did an outstanding job. He was great at getting the party moving and a master on the microphone. For the game, he brought all the married couples up to dance. He announced that anyone who had been together for two years and under could sit, and then increased the number to five, ten, and eventually fifteen. By the time he reached thirty, there were still three couples standing. He raised the number to forty, which prompted all three pairs to sit. Eventually, he whittled the number down to thirty-four, and, as it turns out, all three couples had been married for thirty-four years! The three pairs had a dance-off, and finally, they were left with one couple standing! Initially, Garett’s mom and dad came up, sharing their advice: “Marriages should be like bamboo, strong, but still flexible.” His parents then passed the award to his uncle, because they were married for just a little longer. We played our same day slideshow, and then it was time for first dances.

Garett and Kelsea started it off with a dance to Lanco’s “Greatest Love Story.” Then Garett and his mother shared a mother-son dance, followed by Kelsea and her dad for the father-daughter dance.

The rest of the evening followed suit, with dances, warm laughter, and love in the air.
