The Crawford’s Wedding at Indian Battle Park in Lethbridge

A Disney-Inspired Day for Kenadi and Alex

On the afternoon of Kenadi and Alex’s wedding party, we made the trip over to Lethbridge and met up with the couple at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4. Three weeks prior, Kenadi and Alex had made the trip down to Disney World in Florida, where they had their official wedding. Today was the day to celebrate their union with family and friends, so as soon as we arrived, we moved straight into photos.

It was stormy in Calgary when we left and turned out to be a chilly day in Lethbridge, but that wasn’t stopping the couple from getting outside! However, because of the cold, we began the session with the flower girls, minimizing their time outdoors. A wooden wall served as our backdrop, and we alternated shots of the girls with the bride and groom before moving on to the full family.

Nearby, the local school’s alleyway features a bright red wall, which looked great against Alex’s tartan. For the wedding, both Alex and Kenadi incorporated their Scottish heritage by wearing their clan colours and crests, she in clan McKay, he in clan Crawford. We moved through family photos at a good pace, and then let them head inside to warm up.

The Creative Formals at Indian Battle Park and the Lethbridge Viaduct

We then drove with the bride, groom, and wedding party to Indian Battle Park, next to the Oldman River and beside the magnificent High-Level Bridge. The urban park commemorates the last major battle between First Nations on Canadian soil, the Battle of Belly River, a clash between the local Blackfoot and Cree, on October 24th, 1870.

Beginning in the main park, we wandered around and grabbed some great photos of the wedding party. There are plenty of open spaces throughout the area, with meandering hiking trails and mature trees. Autumn leaves were strewn like a carpet across the ground, giving us a beautiful fall backdrop for the shots.

Once the wedding party left us, we took the newlyweds down to the High-Level Bridge, also known as the Lethbridge Viaduct. This century-old steel trestle bridge is the largest of its kind in the world and made for an awe-inspiring backdrop. We had fun trying out different angles to capture the magnificent feat of engineering, and the cross-hatch beams complemented Kenadi and Alex’s tartan shawl and kilt.

The Crawford Reception at Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4

After spending some time down at the Viaduct, we moved back to the Legion for the reception. A slideshow of the couple played in the background as guests mingled and found their seats.

Kenadi’s mother then pulled up a video of their ceremony in Disney World, which was complete with a horse-drawn carriage and photos at the Enchanted Castle. Even Mickey and Minnie were part of the service!

In keeping with the Disney theme, dinner tables were selected using songs from various Disney movies. Each table had a song card, and when their song was played, they stood to eat. Selections included tunes from Aladdin, Frozen, Tangled, and the Lion King! The buffet consisted of pork chops, lasagne, mashed potatoes, gravy, baked beans, salads, and more!

After dinner, the reception moved into speeches, mostly short and sweet. Everyone expressed happiness at being a part of Kenadi and Alex’s special day.

Speeches wrapped, and the party moved into the ‘Shoe Game,’ which is always great fun. Then they danced their first dance, to tunes from DJ Brady of Hiway Productions. Our photo booth was on site throughout the evening, giving guests the opportunity to take home a keepsake and get a little silly!

Dj Brady prepared a few games to get folks up on the dancefloor. He started the fun with the Macarena and led a funny version of ‘We Are Family,’ getting the guests to surround the couple and sing to them.

Kenadi and Alex’s wedding was tons of fun, the atmosphere was light, and the company was excellent. We were delighted to spend the day with them, and hope they enjoy their images as much as we enjoyed taking them!
