An Easygoing Evening Session

Julie’s Engagement Ring by Noam Carver

We had a lot of fun with Curtis and Julie during their evening engagement session. We started out at Julie’s mother’s house, were we photographed the beautiful rings first. Julie’s beautiful solitary diamond engagement ring and matching band are by Noam Carver, and award winning Canadian designer. We photographed her rings and Curtis’ band together, and then placed them individually on top of one of Curtis’ ornate silver belt buckles.

When we finished photographing the rings, Julie’s folks had a nice meal set out, so we had a tasty bite to eat before we headed out for the session.

The Engagement Session in the Glennfield Area of Fish Creek Park

For the evening shoot, we headed out west to Fish Creek Park, and settled on the Glennfield Area beside Macleod trail. Fish Creek Park is massive, so we stuck to the area around the bridges. On our way we came across a beautiful ridge that really highlighted the beauty of the sunset. The sky was full of incredible color and texture, since it had just finished raining.

Curtis and Julie are both a little bit country. She is studying to be a vet, and he works in dairy farming. So, for their engagement session, they both wore cowboy boots, and Curtis wore a black cowboy hat.

They are also a lot of fun. Curtis and Julie don’t seem overly serious, and they like to joke around and have a good time. We used this energy in the session, and have the photos to prove it. For a few of the shots, Julie pretended to push Curtis down the ravine! Curtis lifted her up, and in the next shot, she is trying to return the favor. Their lighthearted attitude made for an incredibly easygoing photo session.

We then drove to Glennfield Area A to park, and by then the golden sunlight was filtering through the trees and bushes. We walked along the paths by Fish Creek and took some photos in the open fields along the way. Here we were sure to capture the silhouette of the couple against the dramatic sky. We took a lot of photos on top of a pedestrian bridge, and Curtis returned the favor and pretended to throw Julie off!

Stopping under the Macleod Trail Bridge, we got several good shots of Curtis and Julie. In the background the C-Train bridge spans the creek. Heading back along the creek, Curtis and Julie posed as if they were about to dive into the water. We got a few candid shots of the two of them walking back along the path.

To wrap up the shoot, Curtis tried and tried again to toss his cowboy hat onto his head. Although he was ultimately unsuccessful, he provided us all with a fun way to wrap up the shoot.
