Klaassen Mountain Wedding at Stewart Creek Golf Club in Canmore

The Groom Getting Ready

We began at the charming Silver Creek Lodge in Canmore, with Kyle and his groomsmen as they prepped for the day. His parents joined them as they opened their gifts, each unboxing a beautiful, personalized watch with name and date engraved. Each box was unique to the groomsmen, with a story for each of them inside.

Having lost her parents, Kyle’s mom brought a photograph of them for her son to carry on his wedding day. She also gave Kyle a cross from her own mother, given to her on her own wedding day. When the time comes for Kyle’s sister to get married, she can carry it with her too.

The Bride Getting Ready

After photographing the details with the groom, we headed out to the luxurious mountain retreat that is Solara Spa and Resort, where Alysha and her party was getting ready. In a beautiful suite on the fourth floor of the Aurora building, the mango champagne was flowing, and the energy was high.

We photographed the details in Alysha’s stunning dress, with its delicate floral print, sheer silk, and corset top. The girls, all in their own stunning dresses, joined us on the balcony for a few shots against the beautiful Rocky Mountain backdrop. Alysha’s parents even dropped in to participate in the festivities!

Their Ceremony at Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club

With the bride, groom, and their respective parties ready to go, we converged on the Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club for the ceremony. The club is consistently ranked as one of the top golf experiences in the world and features jaw dropping views of the surrounding mountains: the Three Sisters, Cascade, Pigeon, and Ha Ling Mountains. These peaks served as the backdrop for their gorgeous outdoor tent, which was perfect for a ceremony ‘al-fresco.’

When the guests had settled in, the ceremony began. Down the aisle came Kyle and the wedding party, to stand with officiant Patrick Smiley. As Alysha entered and made her way down the aisle, Kyle had a big reaction, letting his emotions out upon witnessing his beautiful bride.

Patrick began the ceremony, telling the story of how the couple met at a resort in Mexico. The particular resort was a bit wild, and it seemed they were part of the only two groups that kept things on the reserved side. The two had a connection right away, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Alysha and Kyle then took part in a hand-fasting ceremony, where their promises to each other were represented by ribbons. These promises were tied on by Jessica, Alysha’s twin sister and maid of honour, and Kyle’s best man Kris. Following the hand-fasting, Patrick led a set of traditional vows, the couple exchanged their rings, and then they shared their first kiss as husband and wife!

Along the deck, overlooking the beautiful mountain range, the newlyweds held a receiving line. After they had thanked and greeted all their guests, we used the same location for family photos.

The Creative Formals at Whitemans Pond & Golf Course

Ceremony and family photos complete, we took a quick twenty-minute drive to Whitemans Pond in the shadow of Ha Ling mountain. When we arrived, the wind was hefty, and we almost lost a bridesmaid into the pond! The group was a ton of fun, taking advantage of the stiff breeze and flowy formal wear to pretend they were flying in the breeze.

After spending some time around the pond, we returned to the Stewart Creek Golf Course with the bride and groom. Down on the first hole, among the pristine lawns and jagged peaks, we photographed the happy couple before heading into the reception.

Back at the Stewart Creek Golf & Country Club, the cocktail hour came to a close, and emcee Patrick announced it was time for dinner. The buffet was stocked with salmon, mashed potatoes, bocconcini salad, chicken, mixed salads, pasta salads, and desserts such as lemon cake, chocolate cake, and an array of pies. The amazing culinary team at Stewart Creek put on quite the spread! Everyone ate quickly and quietly – the best indicator of a delicious meal!

After dinner, the toasts began. Both sets of parents stood to speak, their orations full of emotion. It was clear to see that they are incredibly appreciative of their new family members, and had nothing but praise for their new in-laws too!

Both the maid of honour and the best man followed with their speeches, and to wrap it up, the newlyweds stood to thank everyone for sharing in their special day. Friends of the couple played a beautiful song on an acoustic guitar and keyboard. Then cake came out, and we set up our same-day slideshow for the guests’ viewing enjoyment.

Once the formal part of the reception was over, it was time to dance! At first, the floor was quiet, but DJ Shree of OM Entertainment cranked it up, and suddenly the place felt like a house party, with everyone up, dancing, and having a blast! The dances were interspersed with the bouquet and garter tosses, and the high-energy party continued well into the night.

We had a beautiful day with Alysha, Kyle, and their family and friends. We hope they love their photos as much as we do!
