The Radomski’s Wedding at Sirocco Golf Club Just Outside Calgary

A ‘Ukrasian’ Wedding at Sirocco Golf Club

Jemmica and Jonathan Getting Ready

When we rolled up to Jemmica and Jonathan’s place, the guys were in the midst of getting ready for the day. Jon’s dad Larry had arrived, bringing snacks and gifts for the groom and groomsmen as they organized themselves. After reading a touching letter from his sisters and an emotional text from one of his closest friends, Jon started his wedding day off feeling incredibly loved.

While the guys prepped, Larry handed out gifts he’d made each of them: Hangover Kits! They included little things to make a hangover more manageable, like mints for fresh breath, a toothbrush, a wallet, and a packet of electrolytes, all wrapped up in a tin box.

Jon’s cousin Andrea and her Dad also joined us in the morning. As a gift to the groom, their family was putting together a wedding video for the happy couple. It was great to work with them throughout the day, as Andrea floated between her dual roles of wedding guest and videographer.

Once the men were all dressed up, we headed out to the maid of honour Rachael’s house, where the bride and gals were hanging out. Hair and makeup were almost complete, artfully done by Kelsey with Something Borrowed Beauty, and Bailey of Urban Radiance Salon respectively. The talented stylists made sure Jem and the crew looked picture perfect for the wedding!

We went upstairs while they were finishing up, and photographed all the details and Jem’s gorgeous gown. Jem then came up to get into her dress, and we joined the rest of the party and Jem’s parents downstairs, where several large platters of sushi were set out.

Their Outdoor Ceremony at Sirocco Golf Club

With Jem and the ladies in their dresses, we headed over to Sirocco Golf Club, where the main ballroom was already set up for the reception. Despite the week prior bringing an insane amount of snow to the city of Calgary, Jem and Jon made the call to keep the ceremony outdoors, and it paid off! The fantastic team at Sirocco took the time to clear off the ceremony location, and the rest melted, leaving a clean area that overlooked the beautiful back nine of the golf course. The sun was shining, the weather was pleasantly warm, and the views were gorgeous! DJ Chris from Revolutions Entertainment was playing a great mix of music for the ceremony and kicked things off.

The wedding party came down the aisle, followed by Jon, and finally, Jemmica. Wedding commissioner Susan Hamilton led the lovely service, and they began by exchanging sets of precious stones with one another. They then shared their personal vows, exploring the unique story of their relationship.

Jon and Jem knew each other for seven years before coming together as a couple, when eventually something just clicked. Right from the start though, Jon knew she was the person he wanted to marry. He said that sometimes, the idea of just ‘knowing’ was terrifying, but it was certainly a powerful force and led them to this moment. She’s always been the one, and he feels lucky that she feels the same way about him. Through their vows, it was clear to see what loving and warm people Jem and Jon are, and how great they are together.

Once the vows were complete and the signing made things official, the receiving line began. Almost the entire guestlist travelled from outside of Calgary, from seventy different locations around the globe, so it was important for Jem and Jon to thank them each for taking the time out of their lives to share in their special day.

After the ceremony, it was time for the Chinese Tea Ceremony. They left the receiving line and headed into the Ibby’s Lounge, where they exchanged gifts and shared tea in an intimate and traditional ceremony.

The Creative Formals on the Grounds at Sirocco Golf Club

Because of the heavy snow during the week, the golf course had to end their season prematurely, giving us the ability to get our newlyweds right onto the course for their creative formals. It was a nice treat to use the sprawling grounds at Sirocco, and we got some fabulous photos! With the entire wedding party, we wandered down the course to a lane of birch trees, their branches filtering sun to create dancing patches of light. We took some groupings of the men and women and then finished with a full group shot of the party jumping in the air, far off in the distance, with a gigantic fluffy tree in the background.

We let the wedding party go and moved into shots with Jem and Jon. There is a great space right behind the patio of the Golf Club, that looks over a ledge onto beautiful valley views. There was a nice bench on the edge, so we sat them upon it, brought out the flash, and really highlighted the fall colours in the background. From our vantage point, we looked out onto the entire golf course, and the expansive greens, dotted with patches of bright white snow, looked gorgeous.

The Radomski Reception at Sirocco Golf Club

Jemmica and Jonathan entered their reception to a huge, high energy cheer from their guests. The room looked incredible, decorated with long runners, wooden table numbers, lanterns, candles, and baby’s breath. The room was completed with bride and groom signs for the newlyweds’ chairs.

The talented culinary team at Sirocco treated guests to a custom menu, affectionately called a “Ukrasian dinner” by the bride and groom. There wasn’t a single thing on the diverse menu that wasn’t delicious. Scalloped potatoes, sticky rice, salad with peanut sauce, sesame coleslaw, steamed veggies, chow mein, teriyaki chicken, perogies and sour cream, and cabbage rolls all found a place on the buffet table. The dessert buffet was impressive too, with merengues, crème brûlée, and little cheesecakes to delight the guests. The coordinator of the evening, Mallory, did a fantastic job putting the event together, and we enjoyed working together with her and the team.

After dinner, the night moved into speeches. First up were Jem’s parents, and her father took the reins and told a few funny anecdotes, before letting his more sentimental side out. He shared that he never thought the day would come that someone would take his daughter out of the house and want to marry her!

Then, Jon’s mom got up to tell him how proud she is of his life, his career, the organizations he is part of, and the man he has become. She shared a cute story about the moment she knew he’d grown up; as a hockey mom, she used to help him lace up his skates in the locker room, and it was a sad day when he told her she couldn’t come in to do them up anymore!

His father followed, with a beautiful speech, praising his son for his accomplishments. As a parent, we want our children to do better than us, and Jon has gone above and beyond those expectations. He also noted how special Jon and Jem’s relationship is and was pleased to welcome someone so wonderful and caring into the family.

Jon’s two sisters were up next, and they had to hand it to him; he turned out pretty great for being the middle child between two sisters. They also had a gift for Jem. She is a Flames fan, and Jon is a diehard Oilers fan, so in the end, they gifted her an Oilers jersey to say, “Welcome to the Radomski Family!”

A few of Jem’s close cousins delivered their speeches after Jon’s sisters, telling funny stories about their first few visits with Jon. On his first big meeting with the family, Jon immediately hugged their reserved Asian grandmother, who stood like a wooden board, unsure of how to take the instant affection. Jon just continued to be his loveable self, complimenting Jem’s aunt on her blouse within minutes of meeting her, offering a bizarre but endearing introduction. One of Jem’s cousins rattled off a list of her characteristics, and joked that it was great she had found the caucasian version of herself to marry!

The maid of honour Rachael stood up to wish Jem and Jon the best. The girls first met at Mount Royal in class together, and have been friends ever since. Rachael says that she thanked God for bringing Jem into her life, and is grateful to have such a wonderful friend to learn and laugh with.

The best man Michael, who has been friends with Jon since the sixth grade, rounded out the speeches, offering his heartfelt congratulations. He noted that the two make such a great pair, and wished them the best for the beautiful life ahead of them.

After the speeches, cake cutting commenced, followed by a ‘growing up’ slideshow, and our same day edits of the creative formals session.

Jem and Jon shared a first dance as newlyweds, and then DJ Chris kicked the party off. Everyone poured onto the dance floor, and after a poutine midnight lunch, they kept the party going well into the night!

We had a great day with Jemmica and Jonathan, and are so happy to be part of their wedding day. We hope they love their images as much as we do!
