The Reuther’s Wedding at the River Cafe in Prince’s Island Park

A Gorgeous Garden Party Wedding

The Groom Getting Ready

We began the day of Jessica and Eric’s wedding with the groom and his party, who were getting ready at his parents’ place. He gifted his groomsmen with a crafted wooden box, containing a whisky flask and dram glass engraved with each man’s initials. Before leaving the men to head over to see the bride, Eric had some help into his suit while we photographed the details.

The Bride Getting Ready

Our next stop was Hotel Arts Kensington, a luxury boutique hotel comprised of nineteen stylish rooms. When we arrived, the bridesmaids wore matching plaid sweaters and were opening their gifts, surrounded by flowers from Tavia Hayden of Sweet Bloom. As they prepared for the day, we spent some time photographing the details in the dress and set the stunning ring against Jessica’s stunning Badgley Mischka shoes. The beautiful bride then changed into her dress, and we mustered to head to the first look with her groom!

Their First Look along the Bow River

The historic Firehall #6 on Memorial Drive served as our backdrop for the next part of the day. The fire hall was built in 1906 and constructed with bricks from the local Brickburn factory, making it an important part of Calgary’s heritage. Surrounding the fire hall is Poppy Plaza, organized around an 86,100 square foot war memorial. The memorial space features aesthetic elements, such as illuminated quotes, an aspen grove, and a Balau wood deck. Serving as the backdrop to this dynamic space is Calgary’s expansive downtown, hovering over the Bow River.

In this fantastic setting, we set Eric, who waited patiently at the water’s edge until his beautiful bride appeared! They took a moment for themselves, and when they were ready, we kicked off the creative formals.

The Creative Formals in Prince’s Island Park

In the crisp spring air, we walked the few blocks to Higher Ground, a popular coffee shop in the heart of Jessica and Eric’s old stomping grounds. They grabbed a quick bite, and from there, we wandered into Prince’s Island Park. A little cool to begin with, the weather steadily improved, until the sun appeared, casting a perfect afternoon light. The timing couldn’t have been better, because the couple had an outdoor ceremony to get to!

Their Outdoor Ceremony at The River Café

We slowly wandered through the stunning pathways on the island, until we arrived at the River Café in the heart of Prince’s Island Park. Overlooking Calgary’s downtown core, the gorgeous view from this rustic café set the stage for cocktail hour. The happy couple took some time to mingle with their guests, enjoying the ambiance of the place.

Outside, the outstanding team at the River Café had transformed the patio into an intimate ceremony venue. They turned on the heaters, provided blankets, and once the guests had settled in their seats, it was time to begin. Pam Davidson of Happily Ever After Alberta led a sweet and simple ceremony with traditional vows. The couple shared their first kiss as a married couple, and it was time for the reception!

The Reuther Reception In The River Cafe

The party moved inside the River Cafe, where the decor included tables decked with sequined runners, candles, and wood-crafted table numbers. Dinner commenced, with mains of halibut and pork loin, salads, several kinds of potatoes, and a broad array of veggies. The talented culinary team crafted a delicious, locally-sourced menu for the guests, including appetizers that kept on coming through the evening. Between courses, Jessica and Eric’s family and friends toasted them. Throughout the speeches, it was clear to see that the couple and their friends share a long and lasting bond.

After dinner and speeches wrapped up, Jessica and Eric moved on to the cake cutting and took the time to share a full piece of cake, instead of a quick bite. We shared our same day slideshow before the couple stepped into their first dance. The shared the next dance with their parents, and then DJ from Hype Entertainment got everyone onto the dance floor!

As her gift, Maria, a close friend of the bride, had arranged for her friend Leah from Frozen Assets Ice Cream Co. to set up an ice cream bar for the wedding! Frozen Assets creates a superb, naturally crafted ice cream, which was an absolute hit! The evening rounded out with a midnight spread of flatbreads, and we said goodnight to the happy newlyweds.
